No sooner than you undertake this journey, you come to realise that you have arrived at the right place, the one you should see at least once in your lifetime, due to its many beauties: a starry sky and moonlit greyish-blue sea.
The entire island exudes magical scents of the Mediterranean vegetation: sage, rosemary, lavender, laurel-tree, carob-tree, fig-tree, and pine-tree. Narrow streets lined with ancient stone houses tightly surrounding the harbour, sand and pebble coves, along with a mild Mediterranean climate, have been attracting tourists for decades, even during winter months.

Komiža is bound to have a breathtaking effect on tourists, particularly once they visit its numerous natural and cultural sights, among which the most renowned is certainly the Blue Cave on the island of Biševo, a unique natural phenomenon which is certain to exceed all your expectations. In the very centre of the town, at Riva (lungomare, sea promenade), the most distinguished symbol of Komiža is situated: the Venetian Grimaldi castle (Komuna), whose massive walls house collections of fishing equipment, bearing witness to the centuries-long fishing tradition, as well as the original gajeta-falkuša fishing-boat. Upon an elevation overlooking the sea there is yet another recognisable symbol of Komiža: the Parish Church of St. Nicholas (Muster), with the remnants of the fortified Mediaeval Benedictine monastery, whereas, in the shade of centuries-old cypress trees, there is a cemetery of timeless silence, offering a luxuriant view of the entire Bay of Komiža, the vastness of the open sea, along with the islands of Biševo and Sv. Andrija (St. Andrew).

The beaches of Komiža are washed by greenish-blue waves of the open Adriatic, whose murmur seems to be attracting flocks of seagulls.

As for the gastronomic offer of healthy home-grown food, a genuine gem of the local cuisine deserves to be mentioned: pogača – salted fish and onions on unleavened bread, as well as the abundance of marine specialties, notwithstanding a vast array of local sweets and desserts (dried fig cake called hib, kroštule, etc.). Komiža is widely renowned for its first-class wines among which vugava of Vis (white wine) and plavac of Biševo (red wine) rank among the most appreciated vine sorts, grown on the island since the Antiquity. Cordial hosts will undoubtedly offer you high-quality local herb brandy (travarica) and a genuine nectar, carob-tree liqueur of particular dry sweetish-acrid taste.

During warm summer nights centuries-old stone streets resound with the heavenly harmony of klapa (a cappella) singing, preserved and cultivated by the local population for centuries.

It is therefore by no means surprising that Vis should has been ranked by the World Environmental Organization among the ten best preserved islands of the Mediterranean. Legends, myths, and sirens still survive here, as do traditional boats (gajeta, kajić, leut), which have been sailing here to this day, thereby bearing witness to the primordial fateful connection to the sea and an eternal love for it.

As soon as your boat (or ferry) lands in the Port of Vis on the eponymous island, situated deep down in a bay boasting a long and indented coast, take a beautiful and picturesque road (9 km) leading towards Komiža, located on the opposite, south-west coast of the island, at the foot of Mount Hum […]

["post-12","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
